he Grace Children's Foundation was honored when it was selected to carry the Olympic Torch during the 2002
Salt Lake City Olympics.
In the spirit of ongoing friendship and in anticipation of the Beijing Olympics the Foundation passed the Torch to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the officials who oversee the well-being of the orphan children in China, in Beijing in 2004.
In June of 2007 TCGF was involved in an event leading up to the Beijing Olympics. Three young professionals from the United States embarked on an arduous seven-day, 150-mile Race Across The Planet in the Gobi Desert in the Kashgar region of China. With this accomplishment they honored The Grace Children's Foundation by dedicating their efforts to the children and offered a gesture of friendship between our two great nations.
At 8 P.M. on August 8, 2008, the Olympic torch will light the flame in Beijing to open the 2008 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. The number 8 is associated with prosperity in Chinese culture. The slogan of the Beijing Olympic Games is "One World One Dream" which embraces the ideal of unity and harmony among nations.
In that same harmonious spirit The Grace Children's Foundation has become a bridge between the peoples of the United States and China. TGCF's story is about what care, respect and knowledge the very foundations of love between two nations that are culturally different and a world apart, can achieve through quiet diplomacy and respect for one another.
